LV.Net Brings Good News to Binge Watchers

For millions of Americans, bing watching from a streaming service means hour after hour of couch time, delivered meals, gallons of popcorn, and a hearty appetite for your favorite show.
Cox recently announced that they will be imposing data caps on their customers.  They claim the majority of their customers will not be affected. “Internet usage doubles every two years” says Cox spokesman Juergen Barbusca (Las Vegas Weekly, Thu, Jul 6, 2017).This means that even if you’re not a heavy internet user, casual internet use may soon push you over the limit.
We, at LV.Net, think data caps are not fair   ...READ MORE

What Is Fixed Wireless Broadband
What is Fixed Wireless Broadband?
When people hear the word fixed wireless internet, they associate "wireless" with mobile devices or Wi-Fi. We would like to give you a description of fixed wireless services are and how they will benefit your internet needs.
Fixed wireless broadband is a type of high-speed internet that is an alternative solution to fiber, DSL, and cable. This type of service has been growing popularity with the results of reliability and security that fixed wireless provides.

Fixed wireless installation is simple and easy to use.
The installation consists of transmission towers (sometimes call AP   ...READ MORE

I don't WannaCry

In May of 2017, a new threat emerged on the internet – the WannaCry ransomware worm. This virus infects Windows computers, encrypting the files on the PC’s hard drive, making them impossible for the user to access. The worm then demands a ransom payment, to be paid with Bitcoin to a particular online location, before the files can be decrypted. This virus struck a number of high-profile systems in America and Britain before it was brought under control. The virus exploited a vulnerability in Windows that has since been fixed and is suspected to be connected to the Lazarus Group,   ...READ MORE

Internet of Things
I’m sure everyone at least once heard the term “Internet of Things” or “IoT”.  People discuss it in social media, TV shows, professional forums and communities. For most people who do not work closely with the technology field, this term tells either nothing or that they can buy more things through Internet. But at the same time the Internet of Things is considered to be the biggest of all current technology trends.
So what is the Internet of Things? Basically the IoT is a network of multiple devices and data-gathering sensors that interconnect with each other without human involvement. Sensors gather   ...READ MORE

Internship
The current fast paced business environment makes it crucial for companies to attract and retain best employees. As in the past the practice of job-hopping is getting less and less attractive for people, they tend to want to stay with the same employer longer than people used to do 10 years ago. (Employee Tenure in 2014, Bureau of Labor Statistics. September 18, 2014)

Companies who understand the labor market changes have internship programs to involve, teach and eventually hire the best young professionals. Many large corporations have even created their own corporate universities (General Motors (1927!), General Electric, Walt Disney,   ...READ MORE

Microwave Technology
Microwave Technology

Microwave Technology is an integral part of the Wireless Internet Service Provider (WISP) by providing ultra-low latency networks that allow the user to connect without unwanted latency. LV.Net uses this technology and is building a multifaceted network with the shortest distance between the starting and ending points.

Currently, many businesses utilize a fiber network, which has higher speed in comparison to other hardwired networks. Most fiber networks are installed under public roads, which prevent a direct point-to-point and increases latency.
LV.Net’s microwave technology fights the difficulties of building a network underground by utilizing the frequency spectrum in the sky. Due to   ...READ MORE

Microwave Latency
Microwave Latency
I don't think you'll notice any latency difference between a few meters or 20 miles. The signal travels at the speed of light, so provided it is a good link you will not notice the difference, because I would guess it would be much less than 1ms either way. When talking satellite however, the distance is more like 23,000 miles or so up to the satellite, and same again on the way back to earth. This gives latency in the region of 800ms.
The problem is not going to be the latency of the 150 miles, but the latency introduced   ...READ MORE

The History of Wireless Internet
In the 1980s the FCC began to allow unlicensed microwave frequencies to be used for limited purposes.  Microwave appliances and communications equipment sometimes used the same unlicensed frequencies.  Because there could be more than one user of a frequency at the same time, there was potential for signal interference that needed to be addressed with the design of wireless communication devices.
IEEE 802.11 became a standard for wireless network equipment in 1997.  It brought compatibility to the various units of equipment.  “IEEE 802.11” was a technical sounding phrase.  As a result, IEEE 802.11 networks began to be marketed as “Wi-Fi” and   ...READ MORE

Cloud Computing: Benefits of Accessing Centralized Equipment From a Remote Location
Cloud computing can have the potential to enhance the use of computer equipment and IT services, in addition to making a company’s use of computer equipment and IT services more efficient. In the case of a business that uses equipment in a number of different locations, differences can be significant.
There can be possibilities to achieve economies of scale when equipment that runs applications—a system’s “back end”—is located on a secure site, and where accessing the back end remotely from a system’s “front end.” The storage site for the back end equipment can be in a location where it is convenient   ...READ MORE
